Well,When You Hear That Music...

Requested for in the comments by BFK,
Larry Wallis live with UFO.
Very early UFO sort of space rock boogie.
I don't have a lot of information on this,
tracks 1 to 3 from France 1972.
Tracks 4 to 8 Marquee,London 31st May 1972.
Track 9 is 3 tracks from French TV program Rock En Stock 1972.
Hopefully that's correct.

  3. Thank you - looking forward to listening to the French tracks later today. Funny how French TV always had time for some great bands who weren't that commercial at the time on shows like Bouton Rouge and that people were recording and taping them.

  4. As well as playing with Motorhead & UFO, Larry was also a member of Pink Fairies (check out the excellent 'Kings Of Oblivion' LP), The Deviants & The Redbirds. He also played on a lot of Mick Farren's solo records & projects, had a solo career of his own & wrote a lot of songs for Dr. Feelgood, with whom he often guested. Additionally he played in early 70s bands The Entire Sioux Nation & Steve Peregrine Took's band Shagrat. Not all of it's great, but it's a career worthy of further investigation.

    1. Thanks again Steve, i very much enjoyed this peek into the musical past & hearing UFO before they really honed in on their own trademark style.
Most of it sounds like they're flying by the seat of their pants & jamming out on this material which was very much in the spirit of that time, but you can hear that the Way/Parker rhythm axis was already freakishly telepathic & Mogg always had great pipes on him. Wallis is the wild card in the deck & at times he definitely overplays his hand, but when they're more concise it's great stuff.
Larry would soon find himself in the ranks of the Pink Fairies which was a better fit for him & UFO would find Schenker to complete their classic line up, so the split ultimately benefitted all concerned, but it's interesting to wonder how different musical history may have been had this line up stayed together. Maybe Schenker wouldn't have found a vehicle for his talents & perhaps Lemmy wouldn't have got Motorhead off the ground without Larry?
BTW, track 9 is just an inferior recording of tracks 1-3, but with the French TV presenter jabbering on between songs.
Is the UFO 'Early Flight 1972' LP from the Marquee gig included here or is it a completely different show?
      Cheers.
