Remember The Good Old 1980's...

Another headline and support show from EDDIE
and here he is to tell you all about it.

Chez Kane & Crazy Lixx - WOW feckin' WOW,
for a wonderful 2 and half hours I was transported back to my favourite period of music the 80's...fist in the air anthems one after another in a packed academy2 with  heat levels i have not experienced since the old Marquee days. Chez Kane kicked it all of with her sublime melodic rock,
if she had been around back then with a song as good as Rocket On The Radio this gal would of been a mega star...what a voice..
only a 40 min set but I could of walked away from the gig happy as Larry BUT NO Crazy Lixx took it to another level these Swedes played the venue like it was a stadium and with songs where every chorus just stays in your head,I am sucker for any band who have twin lead guitarists..
these guys are amazing I just hope they can get up there to
the next stage I am told they have a song the brilliant 'Silent Thunder'
coming out in one of Tom Cruise's films
so you never know they might still make it big....
24 hours later I still can't get rid of the smile on my face...what a night..

Into The Sound Of Distant Drums...

Now don't get me wrong I like Dare but tonight
on a 3 bill show (also feat. FM & Tyketto) they were the weakest link.
My problem is vocally I just don't think
Mr. Wharton is strong enough in that
department BUT that's just my opinion
and musically they were excellent and with the other
bands made it one of the gigs of the year...Enjoy,Ed.

All I Need Is Communication...

Another UFO show from the 1979 Strangers Tour of the USA.
It's missing some of the first track,Electric Phase
otherwise a pretty decent sounding show
with a very good performance and a real vibe to this show.

It's Enough To Make You Rip Out Your Hair...

Sleazy Hard Rock from NYC could've,should've,would've been a big band with a great debut album in 1990.Things were looking bright BUT then on the 24th Sept '91 a little known Seattle band released 'Nevermind' and that was IT, a whole genre of music was wiped out and I still haven't forgiven Mr. Cobain.BUT thankfully they reformed a few years back and at last I get to see them albeit in a small shitty club but sometimes that's the best way to see certain bands, especially these guys bringing that cool New York Groove to the streets of Camden....loved it..Enjoy,Ed.

You Call My Name...

Another should of been huge bands but for whatever reason they just never really took off.
I remember seeing them back in the 80's and thinking great vocals,
great songs and lot's of good press...America get ready for some British Melodic Rock. BUT, it never happened.
And here we are over 30 years later great vocals,
great songs and happy to play the
UK club circuit every couple of years.
I still enjoyed it but a part of me kept thinking this
has to be a hobby for them as they
will never achieve global success and mefinks they know that...
great night..Enjoy,Ed

Everybody's Swinging,Dancing To The Music...

SOUTHSIDE JOHNNY.So here's the story...I am a bit of a  Springsteen fan.But no way am I gonna pay big bucks (£175...seriously) to stand in a field at Hyde Park down the road the night before and after tonight,so I thought I would pop along to the Empire to see his best mate play and hoping the Boss might join him for a jam at some point...and guess what...it didn't happen...BUT by the end of the gig I didn't care because this was so good considering I knew none of the songs it really didn't matter. I just got so into their New Jersey blue collar Blues sound I left the venue with a big smile and a new favourite band...Bruce who??...Enjoy,Ed.

A Feeling Deep Inside,Oh Yeah...

All the way from the US of A for their debut UK gig bringing with them that classic 70's FM,Westcoast Melodic AOR sound that only the Americans can do,what I didn't expect was just how good they would be musically. These brothers certainly know how to play their instruments even if their look is from the Bee Gees disco era.I was waiting for them to break into Jive Talkin'
at any moment ...great stuff...Enjoy,Ed.

You Better Come On Home...

A massive high five to Planet Rock Radio for organising
this inaugural Blues night at Dingwall's giving us fans a
chance to see 3 bands up close, headliners KING KING
who I saw earlier in the year at
a much larger venue was as you would expect...
incredible. From their choice of
songs right down to their playing ability,
Mr. Nimmo on lead guitar is truly
exceptional and so melodic and to watch him
was a highlight of the year for me...what a night...Enjoy, Ed.

I Know That I Will Follow...

 AT LAST,after a 36 year wait I finally
got to see Mr.Tramp in concert
and not only that but he played a
White Lion set (died and gone to heaven moment )
don't get me wrong I love his solo stuff (forget Freak Of Nature)
BUT it's White Lion ffs.
Verdict = outfeckinstanding,he may have to sing in a lower key
these days but the voice is still there and along with Mr.Nand
doing his best Vito impersonation this led to
tonight being one of my favourite shows of the
year so far.I even put up with my nemesis the "BACKING TAPES"
but as the legend himself confessed,it's
just not financially viable to bring a full
band over for these small intimate shows
BUT he did promise to
rectify this next year...here's hoping...Enjoy,Ed.

Regrow The Forest...

Well I did not expect this...on record TLI sound really good hence the reason I popped along BUT live they just go to another level, heavier and faster with amazing energy shown throughout the gig.Vocalist Delia is all over the stage and jumping in the crowd during the show making it an absolute joy to watch and listen to and tonight will make it into one of my top 5 gigs of the year...fantastic night...my only gripe being where I was (upstairs on the balcony) I was surrounded by these free ticket holders who insist on chatting their way through the gig...JEEZ I hate these people...show some respect for the band FFS I am hoping the government will bring in a law where these people can be taken out of the venue and SHOT.That aside if you do get a chance check this band out they are gonna be big mefinks...
Enjoy,Ed.

Proud To Break The Bloody Chains...

So it's a Saturday night in Camden and the best place to be is The Underworld to see and hear some Symphonic Metal all the way from Finland,as I've said before this is quite a new genre for me and having put aside my hatred for use of backing tapes (everyone is doing it so I just gotta live with it) I really got into the pirate theme and listening to how well the female/male vocals thang goes led to a really good night of music and it was amusing to see a few fans dressed in their full Captain Jack Sparrow fancy dress outfits which looked good in the venue but going home on the tube they must of taken quite a bit of stick from the Saturday night drunks...
Enjoy,Ed.

It's A Clue To the Answer We All Chase...

Yes they are still going...I never got to see them back in the day (the 80's reformation version NOT the 70's original..I am far too young for that version) but wanting to hear some hammond organ led progressive music I made my way to The Forge in Camden a new venue and a very nice one at that. And what did I get for my cash?...as it turned out an excellent night of Rock music played by experienced musicians a couple of who played in the original Rooster with Vincent Crane way back in the early 70's.I do think it's important that bands of this ilk keep going and looking around it was nice to see a few youngsters in the crowd enjoying this old school Prog Rock...Enjoy,Ed

Many Years Since I Was Here...

This man is so talented it should be illegal.
Not only did he write all of these songs
going back 5 decades but he plays a mean
guitar on top, just why he would want to
play a small pub in front of 150 people on a cold
Thursday night is beyond me.
BUT, I am so glad he did.To hear
these classic songs up
close and personal was a real treat and to witness
'Two Silhouettes' played live was a died and gone to heaven
moment for me...
I left tonight in total awe of his genius...Enjoy,Ed.

She's Got Me Hooked...

Looking through my gig list for the year one thing
that really stood out unfortunately was the lack of
Melodic Rock bands on the road in the UK,
a genre very close to my heart..
SO! a massive thank you to Midnite City
for keeping this catogory alive with some top quality
AOR/Melodic Rock. They have been so consistent
over the years album wise it was a pleasure to watch a
nd hear in this tiny venue tonight and
just proving to me we in the UK can match what the U.S.
and Sweden do so well...Enjoy,Ed.

Dreams Get The Best Of Me...

So the big question is when does a band become a tribute band??
Well here is my take on Molly Hatchet
for what its worth.I have been a huge fan
since album one and although there are no
original members left I think Bobby Ingram,
after being in the band for over 40 years
has every right to carry on taking this brand of
Southern Rock around the world.
For me to witness songs I have over
the years worn out many air guitars playing
along to was a privilege and to have real
Southern Rockers in his band was a joy to watch and listen to
(we don't get many of those in London).
Having purchased the ticket in 2020
just before that little flu
thing took over the world the wait was well worth it...
HELL YEA...YEHAW..Enjoy,Ed

A Rock 'n' Roll Disgrace!

Ok as I didn't really enjoy their performance
earlier in the year at the Underworld I thought
I would give them another try.Plus it was a FREE show so why not?
So this time I got up real close and
band performance wise they were
exceptional BUT Dougie on vocals was just off his face
(at one point he introduced a song they had just played...
SERIOUSLY) pretty much ruined it for me
and on the encores with Kim(Girlschool) &John (Raven)
was just embarrassing to watch.
With a pissed Dougie hardly noticing them...
now I know it's Rock 'n' Roll
but please show some professionalism...
nice venue though...Enjoy,Ed.
