Trad Metal now from one of Canada's best known
Metal bands,Anvil.
They made a bit of a splash back in the early 80s,
featuring in Kerrang! a few times.
I did buy Hard 'n Heavy back then
but I didn't keep up with the band.
Many years later they returned again with
that documentary showing what it's really like
being in a band.
Still out their Bangin' Their Heads!!

Thanks for sharing this, I've always liked Anvil.
ReplyDeleteBetween Lips' Nugent inspired Rock 'n' Roll guitar heroics & Robb's incredible Metallic double bass drumming they had a quite distinct sound. Because of that Rock/Metal balancing act they also swung a lot more than those staccato obsessed Thrashers who came right after them, though i did love some of that stuff too.
Reiner's incredible full drum sound (courtesy of 'C.T.''s superb production) should have become the sonic benchmark that other bands aspired to, but instead we somehow ended up with that horrible dry mechanical boom that ruins many a modern record. No justice.
This show had a really good setlist, weighted nicely between their 1st three classic albums (9 songs) & more recent material (8 tracks). If they'd just now add either 'Bedroom Game' or 'Bondage' they'd have maybe the perfect set. Thanks.
BowlingRon here (again) - still struggling to sign in for comments...Anvil is about to hit the road for a big tour across North America and Europe...promising a setlist made entirely of songs from their first 3 albums...
ReplyDeleteThat sounds amazing! Thanks for letting me know Ron, and congratulations on your retirement.
