Pretty good audience recording from that fine band,The Babys.
Another one thrown our way by Rick.
Another one thrown our way by Rick.
My history with the band goes back to Kerrang! magazine
and the journalist Howard Johnston.
He got me into a few bands due to his glowing reviews
and enthusiasm.
Starz,Angel & The Babys to name a few.
Their albums were pretty hard to come by over here
back then,probably because most
of them had split up by the time I'd heard of them.
Anyway the first Babys album I got (used of course)
was Head First,still my favourite.
Of course I followed a bit of John Waite's
solo career.Apart from his big hit,a staple
on those Rock compilation albums.
His first solo album,Ignition is to me a classic of it's
kind,Power Pop,Pop Rock or AOR call it
what you want,it's a goodie.

Classic Rick - Hearty thanks for all your fine posts. Terrific additions to the proceedings here at the mighty Hear Rock City. This post is a nice reminder that I saw the Babys on their first U.S. tour, supported by Budgie. John Waite was still playing bass, and both bands made for a strong night of rock'n roll. Cheers.
ReplyDeleteI fondly remember listening to a concert of the Babys on a Dutch radio station and they played my favourite song of their repertoire, Piece of the Action. Never could find back a recording of this concert or any concert where they play that song.
ReplyDeleteI'm the taper of this show, and just posted it for the first time recently on the G-101 site. Just wanted to point out that your cover art shows the original Babys lineup, but the band on this show does not have Michael Corby, he was fired before the Head First album was completed, and replaced by Jonathan Cain on keys, and Ricky Philips was also added on bass. Thank you for also including my info file, it gives the details that they were opening for Alice Cooper at this show. Cheers! -Steve Z
ReplyDeleteCheers Steve Z thanks for the show and the info.
DeleteSometimes with the covers I get a pic I like and go with it.I sometimes don't like
to spend a lot of time on them.So not everything is accurate but,Hey! we're havin' fun.
I gotcha, not the most important thing, of course, just wanted to point it out. Thanks for your efforts with the site, I've gotten a lot of cool things here! -SZ
