Kiss Alive! blew my mind in 1975. Being a drummer, I was taken more by Peter Criss but Ace and the rest of the band was a huge influence for my 13 year old rock and roll ears! I saw them twice on the Love Gun Tour as well as Ace in 2022, opening for Alice Cooper. He will be missed!
Besides the guitar heroics Ace was a riot. Watch the video of him cracking everyone up on the old Tom Snyder show. A true entertainer who will be missed.
Where Gene, Paul and Peter seemed larger than life, Ace seemed like a regular guy I'd want to hang with. Affable, that infectious laugh and a more laid back role in the band like he just wanted to have fun. RIP Space Man.
kingpossum, I feel the same. Ace was believable, not just some image or pre-planned icon. He was the first musician I knew by name that made me think he was the coolest guy walking.
Well said simonthecat! I read an interview decades ago where he said he was just a confused high school kid in a band when he was playing the surf standard "Pipeline" once and everybody went crazy--and he knew that's what he wanted to do for the rest of his life. No contrivance, all heart. Thanks for your post.

ReplyDeleteHe inspired millions of kids from the 70s and 80s to pick up the guitar and learn to play. RIP Ace.

ReplyDeleteRest In Peace Rock Soldier! Now more then ever everyone, if you get the chance see your heroes before they leave us.
ReplyDeleteR.I.P. Space Ace.
ReplyDeleteFly high.
"The gravity that used to hold you down, just don't exist no more".
I had the privilege to see him during the Kiss Reunion tours ; I definitely will miss those days. He was a great artist.
