  1. Classic Stones Bootleg. When do you feel the Stones started sounding bland live? The 1975 tour was rough. 1976 was ok. Kind of hit and miss from 1989-present but there are some good shows sprinkled along those years. The Mick Taylor years are golden.

    1. for as bad as 1975 was, "LA Friday" is a damn fine show, even though mick sounds drunk for most of it. band were, instrumentally, top of the game. (sorry if this posts twice)

  3. If I had the big time machine, this tour is one of the priorities I'd make sure I got to. In the meantime I saw the Stones in Ames Iowa 10/8/89 - here's the show from the night before that https://we.tl/t-m495Bjm9gH

  5. for as good of an album as "some girls" is, and as good live as "handsome girls"/"some girls live in texas" is, the mick taylor years were the stones at their creative peak. "let it bleed," "beggar's banquet," "sticky fingers"... damn fine albums. and "exile on main street" goes without saying of course.

  6. I would put the run that started with Jumpin' Jack Flash through Exile up against anything else any other band has done.

  7. An all-timer, this one. A must-have back in the day. And still so. Thanks for the post, Rocket.

  8. I agree about the band on LA Friday. Mick's vocals on the 1975 tour are sloppy possibly because of 'cocaine jaw' or other substances. Lots of growling into the microphone. Gimme Shelter sounds good on LA Friday and in the 1975 Buffalo concert. Ronnie and Keith do the ancient art of weaving justice on that number. The Stones put Ronnie in the solo spot since they were used to it with Taylor. Sometimes Ronnie nails it (Brown Sugar) or he does his best and you think "ya he'll get better" Only Harvey Mandel or Jeff Beck could have matched or outdone Taylor's live solo spots.

Great Stones boots I frequently listen to: Philadelphia Special 1972 - Live'R Than you'll Ever Be 1969 - Perth 1973 - Stones Touring Party 1972 - Sky Pilots 1969 - Timeless Europe 73 The Stars in the Sky Never Lie 1973 -London Wembley 1973.

Hyde Park 1969 sounds good but Stones fans are mixed about the performance. I think that I'm Yours and She's Mine is a great performance of a one-off performance. Reasons as to why they played that Johnny Winter song varies: It was Brian's favourite song at the time or Keith heard Johnny Winter play it and he was inspired to play it at the concert. It's a good opening number. Hyde Park has an interesting set list of songs that the Stones don't usually play like Mercy, Mercy and Down Home Girl, so it's interesting to hear those songs before they are left in the 1960s.

Those listed boots have the best sound quality. Sky Pilots is an incomplete audience recording but the recording device sounds very close to the stage and the same with Live'R Than you'll ever Be which may or may not be a leaked soundboard or radio broadcast or the rumor that the bootleggers put the recorder right on the stage which is why it sounds so good. That album was the reason Get Yer Ya Yas out was released.

  9. Agreed Simonthecat. Beggar's Banquet to Exile is legendary for the Stones. Goats Head Soup was an okay album but the tour that followed it continued the magic they had stored from 1972. Exile is a superb album with a legendary tour. If only Taylor stayed in 1975. We could have got some songs played live from It's Only Rock and Roll. Time Waits for No One live would have been amazing with Taylor copying the solo from the album and adding new melodies. It might not have lasted through the tour but it would have been something to hear.
