Some Canadian Metal from back in the 80's.
This is from a Much Music broadcast
so the quality is really good.
Anthemic Rock & Tear Jerkin' Ballads is what you're
gonna get here.
I saw these guys back in 1983 supporting KISS.
What I took away from it was, wow, these
guys put on a really energetic show.
Still a going concern as far as I know.

Thanks for sharing this...love all of their early work (pre-1986)! Also, thanks for sharing the UFO and Michael Schenker posts from a few day ago.
ReplyDeleteAs long as we're on the subject of Helix, wondering if anyone has their "Live At The Marquee" promo-only EP that they sent to a few radio stations in 1984? A few tracks were put on their Razor's Edge CD re-issue, but can't seem to find the full 6-song EP anywhere online (and it commands too high a price the few times its appeared on Ebay and Discogs). Anyway, if anyone can spare a link, would love to finally hear it.
Cheers...
These guys are great Im glad that they made it through and are still around. Making it through the 80's and 90's was an adventure for everybody that is still kicking
ReplyDeleteHelix were never a "Heavy Metal" band. They played gritty anthemic Hard Rock, and gawd-bless-'em they're still plugging away at it all these years later and still sound pretty good too.
ReplyDeleteThere was a brief moment around the time of 'No Rest...' where it looked like they might just be promoted to the big leagues, but it wasn't to be.
Much like Y & T's story around the same time, Helix attempted to court radio by smoothing off some of their rough edges but it didn't pay off for them with a big hit and only served to piss of their existing fanbase who bought their records precisely because of those rough edges.
Stick or twist?
Twist.
Bust.
Damn...
