Alright Eddie's back at the Barn door delivering
another bunch of shows,Let's Go!
3rd October 1981,Marquee Club,STILL my all time favourite
gig.So 40 years on do they still have it?
Absofuckinlutely...what a great night.
It's gigs like these that make you forget all the shite
and put a massive smile on your face.
Of course they don't play as fast as back in the day
but just hearing that slide guitar dominate the
show was such a joy.
And Angry is of course still Angry.
They could of played Suddenly and it
wouldn't have bothered anyone
(an in joke for us sad fans Ha Ha)
I left auto level off my recorder so it's a bit top heavy.
DOH!

Hi Eddie,
whilst your 'Ed Master Recording' of this show was a good listen, the venue's acoustics had made the sound rather bass-heavy & 'boomy' & i thought it could be improved.
So the version below has been freshly EQ-ed by yours truly for 'maximum grunt'. I don't claim to be an expert at this type of thing, but to me it sounds much better, with a brighter overall sound & more bite to the guitars.
To avoid confusion with your original i also made completely new artwork so that the differing versions can be easily told apart, but i made sure to credit you in the artwork as the original source. Hope you don't mind my tinkering with your original recording, i'd be interested to hear what you think of the results. If you want to share this version here, please feel free. Great music deserves to be heard.
Best wishes,
riptorn

smoker, Tell Eddie THANKS for the Rose Tattoo, From Me...
ReplyDeleteHooray! Life is beautiful again! Thanks very much for this!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for this one. The Tatts are still one of the greatest live bands to tread the boards. I've been lucky enough to see them play 3 times over the years & they've been incredible every time. It's just impossible to keep the smile off your face or stay still whilst they're doing their thing. The intensity & fire of their youthful days remains undimmed, unlike so many 'heritage' bands currently out there going through the motions and robbing audiences. A real deal untamed rock 'n' roll band, the last of a dying breed. Tatts Forever, Forever Tatts!

hi riptom, thank you very much with the edit, outstanding job.i gave it blast last night and really enjoyed the listen.I am not one of these "it's my recording so don't touch or edit BLAH BLAH BLAH"..it's out there so it's everyone's to do what you wish and if it means improvements like you have done all the better...keep rockin' ed
ReplyDeleteHi Eddie, part of the reason for me sharing it here was to ensure that you didn't feel like i was 'treading on your toes' by messing with your recording, so i'm glad to hear that you enjoyed the results of my tinkering & relieved to hear that you didn't mind me doing so. Huge thanks to you for making & sharing the recording in the first place. They were in good form on the 2022 dates, so it's great to have a recording of the band on what turned out to be Bob Spencer's last gigs with the band.
DeleteAny idea who the drummer was for this show? I know they have to use stand-in's occassionally because Paul DeMarco's criminal record means he's barred from entering certain countries & this was the case on the UK dates. They've had several friends step in to play (most often it's John 'Watto' Watson) with them but i can't find confirmation on who played drums on these dates. It sounds like Angry says 'Tommy Burns' or 'Barnes' when he intros the band during Nice Boys, but i can't be sure.
I'm a huge Tatts fan so it's always great to see you blokes talking them up & spreading the word. More power to yez, you're doing god's work! :) riptorn
Eddie's named Paul DeMarco on the drums in his notes.
DeleteDefinitely not, Paul's barred from the UK because of his drugs & firearms convictions. There's video from this show on Youtube & it's clearly someone else behind the kit.
DeleteAwesome show. Great that Angry's still open to playing stuff they haven't done live for years. Before the '22 tour, by my reckoning they hadn't played 'Sidewalk Sally' live since 1982! 40 years! Great also to hear lesser played deep cuts like 'It's Gonna Work Itself Out' & 'Juice On The Loose'. Wish more older bands would freshen up their set lists like this instead of rigidly sticking to 'greatest hits' sets all the time.
